About the Author

Beth Shields is the Canadian creator and author of Limnables^®. Limnables^® are 'illustrate them yourself'' stories for children.

Beth spent most of her ~25 teaching years as an ESL teacher, all the while struggling to apply her own small town upbringing to "the city" (mainly Toronto) and to the wider world (especially Thailand).

Limnables^® are part of a process that began over 30 years ago. Beth attended numerous courses and workshops during which the seeds of her stories were planted. She had never even heard of the word 'limn' until after her first Limnable^® came out in October, 2002. That was when she rose to the challenge of answering the question, "They're not colouring books. They're not activity books. They're different. What are they?" She finally came up with, "They're Limnables^®."

JoeBeth Books has not existed much longer, but what is important for Beth is that it does exist. Without her husband Tom (Thomas Joe) to patiently nudge her along, Beth would still be trying to learn how to use a word processor and none of this would exist!
